About the California Consumer Privacy Act



The California Consumer Privacy Act, otherwise known as the CCPA, went into effect on January 1, 2020.  CCPA expands privacy rights and protections for California residents by providing the following as it relates to their personal information:
 

  • right to know what personal information is collected and for what purpose;
  • right to access and request the personal information stored about them;
  • right to know whether their personal information is sold and to whom it is sold;
  • right to opt out of the “sale” of their personal information;
  • right to not be discriminated against for exercising their privacy rights; and
  • right to request deletion of their personal information with certain exceptions.
